The day of Grandma Buswell's funeral was a very emotional one. None of us felt ready to say good-bye, she left us so suddenly and unexpectedly. Grandma is going to be greatly missed. Thankfully, we have a very loving, supportive family and a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ to have the comfort and blessing of knowing this is not the end and we will see and be with Grandma again. I am so happy that she did not have to suffer before she died and that she is together again with Grandpa, her best friend and love of her life! The funeral was a wonderful tribute to an amazing woman. Grandma made everyone better by knowing her.
After Grandma died my mom called me as they were heading to the funeral home to make arrangements. She asked me if I remembered what song Grandma had asked me to sing at her funeral. I told her that I was almost positive it was "His Image in Your Countenance". Grandma had asked me to sing this song clear back when I was in high school. She loved the message of this song. It had been a long time since we had discussed it but she never forgot it. This was evident when they went to the funeral home and on the sheet of her funeral requests she hadn't made very many specific decisions. In fact, the only decisions she had made were that she wanted 2 songs; "Heavenly Father Loves Me" sung by family, and "His Image in Your Countenance" sung by me, and lavendar flowers. When my mom called to tell me this, I burst into tears, to think that it meant that much to my Grandma. Every time I sat down to practice I could not get through the song, it reminded me too much of Grandma and I felt so honored to sing at her funeral. Anyway, all through the week, I shed many tears, thinking that the flood would eventually dry up. Well it never did. The morning of the funeral, driving there, I was still not able to keep my emotions under control. I asked Troy to give me a blessing when we got to the church because I knew I needed help. Troy gave me a beautiful blessing and after that I knew it was going to be okay.
I was on the program as the closing song. I shed many tears during the funeral but right before it was my turn, I had an amazing peace come over me and I was able to stand and sing the song for my Grandma without a glitch. I was so happy that I was able to sing the song for her and share the message with those in attendance. It was an amazing experience.
Grandma, Thank you for your life, love, and example. You make me want to be better!
